Committees

Committees are the cornerstone of the association, and play a vital role in its growth and development. The diverse voices of the members are brought together in committees; uncovering solutions to issues of various proportions and propelling the association forward.
Student Relations Committee

The Student Relations Committee uncovers opportunities to strengthen the relationship between the OVMA and the students at the OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences. Identifying opportunities for campus involvement, student interaction within the OVMA, and reinforcing the value of organized veterinary medicine to students are all goals of this committee.

This committee typically meets four times per year, between each board meeting. Meetings typically last 1-2 hours and can be held either in-person or via video/phone conferencing.

Business Alliance Task Force

This task force was established to identify and evaluate potential opportunities where OVMA members can receive discounts on products utilized in everyday practice. These programs also generate non-dues income to the OVMA.

This committee typically meets four times per year, between each board meeting. Meetings typically last 1-2 hours and can be held either in-person or via video/phone conferencing.

Oklahoma State Fair Committee

The Oklahoma State Fair is one of the largest volunteer opportunities coordinated by the OVMA. The Birthing and Surgery Centers are both large attractions for fair attendees and an opportune time for public education on veterinary medicine. In addition to the live animal displays, the committee also develops educational displays on current diseases and common household items poisonous to pets.

This committee typically meets five to six times per year with both pre and post-fair meetings. Meetings are held in person at the OVMA office or on the State Fairgrounds.

Tulsa State Fair Committee

The Tulsa State Fair is one of the largest volunteer opportunities coordinated by the OVMA. This committee typically meets five to six times per year with both pre and post-fair meetings. Meetings are held in person, typically at Woodland West Pet Hospital in Tulsa.

Social Media & Outreach

The goal of this committee is to identify new and emerging ways to engage with the OVMA membership. With the recent development of the OVMA app, the social media committee is leading the way in strengthening the lines of communication within the association. Utilizing social media to connect with all members of veterinary medicine and educating the public through these channels is the purpose of this committee.

This committee typically meets four times per year, between each board meeting. Meetings typically last an hour and are held via video/phone conferencing.

Convention Committee

The Convention Committee will assist the OVMA staff in creating the schedule, planning activities, and plan the layout of the convention. This committee will also review marketing materials, vendor applications, contact potential sponsors, and assist in the overall planning of the convention.

This committee will meet various times throughout the year as necessary to plan for the convention. Most meetings will be 1-2 hours in length and be held both in-person and via phone/video conference.

Legislative Advocacy

This committee will discuss and make recommendations on proposed legislation which may impact the veterinary profession in Oklahoma. Utilizing the assistance of the two OVMA lobbyist this committee helps to protect veterinary medicine in our state.

This committee typically meets four times per year, between each board meeting. Meetings typically last 1 hour and will be via phone/video conference. This committee will also be frequently asked to make recommendations via email.

Wellbeing

The OVMA cares about the physical and mental health of our members and created this committee to help promote wellness within the profession. The goal of this committee is to put resources and knowledge into the hands of our members to help them live their best life.

This committee will typically meet four times per year, between each board meeting. Meetings typically last 1-2 hours and are held in person or via video/phone conference.

Animal Welfare

This committee will address any animal welfare issues in Oklahoma.

This committee would meet four times per year, between each board meeting with meetings typically lasting 1 hour.

Disaster Response

This committee will help other Oklahoma veterinarians by educating and preparing them in the event of a disaster to their community. This committee will work with established disaster response teams and the Oklahoma Animal Care Foundation.

This committee will meet 1-2 times per year or as needed to train and educate.

Continuing Education

The Continuing Education Committee will assist the OVMA staff in identifying and contacting potential speakers for the various CE events coordinated by the OVMA.

This committee will typically meet 3-4 times throughout the year with meetings lasting 1-2 hours. Meetings will be held both in-person and via phone/video conference.

Fundraising

To assist students in the veterinary profession with their increasing amount of student debt this committee will identify and coordinate fundraising events to raise funds for scholarships.

This committee will meet as needed to organize fundraising events. Typically 5-6 times per year both in-person and via video/phone conference.
