OSDH Partners with Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory for Animal Rabies Lab in Stillwater

New Animal Rabies Lab Goes Live on Sept. 13

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) announced today it has partnered with the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL) to support the state’s animal rabies lab within its facility on the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater.

Beginning on Monday, Sept. 13, animal samples sent for rabies testing must be shipped to the new Stillwater location at the address below for processing, however, it is important to emphasize that animal rabies testing will continue at the Public Health Lab on 10th Street through Friday, Sept. 10.

“We’re excited to collaborate with the Oklahoma State Department of Health on the animal rabies lab,” OADDL Director Dr. Jeremiah Saliki said.

“It’s critical we get the word out to veterinarians, law enforcement, animal control and the public that samples need to be sent to the Stillwater location moving forward to avoid losing the ability to test them due to delays resulting from shipping to the old location out of habit,” State Public Health Veterinarian LeMac’ Morris said.

For questions regarding rabies exposure risks for humans or animals, or to find out if an animal should be tested for rabies, contact the OSDH Acute Disease Service Epidemiologist-on-call at (405) 427-8710. For additional information about how to submit animal samples for rabies testing, call the OSDH/OADDL Rabies Lab at (405) 744-6623.
