04 Mar 2019 Power of Ten Leadership Academy Participant Spotlight – Jacquelyn Boehm, DVM
The 2019 Power of Ten Leadership Academy concluded during the 2020 Oklahoma Veterinary Conference. The Power of Ten Leadership Academy is a seven-session program that provides an in-depth leadership opportunity and 20 hours of continuing education credit at no cost to the participant. It is designed for veterinarians who have been in practice for 10 years or less since graduation and are OVMA members.
We will be featuring individual “spotlights” on each 2019 participant over the weeks ahead. Our next individual is Jacquelyn Boehm, DVM.
Dr. Boehm is a 2018 Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine Graduate.
Where do you currently live?
Where are you originally from?
What made you decide to apply to participate in the Power of Ten?
To help further my knowledge about what and how the OVMA helps our profession within the state.
What did you enjoy most about the Power of Ten?
Getting to meet colleagues who have been out of school for about the same time frame, hear their experiences. Also, the personality portion of the course was very insightful, along with all the speakers and guests that come in to educate us on the OVMA, OBNDD, and Pharmacy Board here in Oklahoma.
What is one thing you would want to change about the Power of Ten?
I would honestly loved to have more sessions/meetings.
How do you define success?
Encountering a challenging experience, learning from it and making better choices/decisions in the future.
Who inspires you?
Many people. People who are willing to educate others, especially when they been through trying time and come out on the other side. People who are willing to accept faults/challenges and ask for help. People who encourage and embrace professional and personal boundaries.
If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose?
That is a tough one. There are so many people past and present I think would be wonderful to meet and learn from. I don’t know that I could pick just one.
What is something you enjoy outside of veterinary medicine?
Traveling, especially abroad.
If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Fajitas with queso
What advice would you give some who is interested participating in the Power of Ten?
Apply! It was one of the best things I have done for myself in a while when it comes to veterinary medicine.
What is your biggest take away from the Power of Ten?
Being active with the OVMA really can and does make a difference
