2019 Power of Ten Leadership Academy Participant Spotlight – Brianna Judkins, DVM

The 2019 Power of Ten Leadership Academy concluded during the 2020 Oklahoma Veterinary Conference. The Power of Ten Leadership Academy is a seven-session program that provides an in-depth leadership opportunity and 20 hours of continuing education credit at no cost to the participant. It is designed for veterinarians who have been in practice for 10 years or less since graduation and are OVMA members.

We will be featuring individual “spotlights” on each 2019 participant over the weeks ahead. Our third individual is Brianna Judkins, DVM.

Dr. Judkins is a 2016 Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine Graduate.

Edmond

Where are you originally from?

Tulsa, Oklahoma

What made you decide to apply to participate in the Power of Ten?

I wanted to learn more about the veterinary profession and meet more of my fellow colleagues.

What did you enjoy most about the Power of Ten?

I most enjoyed getting to hear about personal experiences and common challenges across the profession and different ways of handling these challenges.

What is one thing you would want to change about the Power of Ten?

I would open this forum to all veterinarians, everyone has something to learn from a program like this.

How do you define success?

To me, success is moving forward in a positive way. Did I meet my goals, and if I made mistakes did I learn from them?

If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose?

I feel so blessed, one thing I came to appreciate more is how many mentors I have at VCA Kickingbird Animal Hospital. It truly is a wonderful team to be a part of.

What is one thing – either industry related or not – that you learned in the last month?

I knew the OVMA advocated for our profession and effected policy statewide. Through this program, I learned how much they advocate for us as individual practitioners.

What is something you enjoy outside of veterinary medicine?

I enjoy spending time with my family, volunteering with Restore OKC, and hiking.

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Definitely something with bread

What advice would you give some who is interested participating in the Power of Ten?

Keep an open mind and get to know everyone in your class

What is your biggest take away from the Power of Ten?

I have a much better understanding of my profession and I truly enjoyed getting to know my colleagues better. Overall I feel I have a much better perspective.
